Road Trip Vacation PlanningOne of the pleasures is road trip vacation planning. Although this may seem odd, it isn't because you can make sure that your trip goes along without any great surprises. Planning for a road trip has several components and you need to make sure that these are done with care or you may find that problems crop up at the least expected time. Now, before you decide on what kind of road trip vacation you want to take, part of this decision will be based on whether you are going alone, going with a companion (friend, spouse etc.), or whether you are including a family. If you are including a family in this trip, you also will have different planning needs if you have, for example, a young child, or older children, or teenagers.

Let's start off with the planning needed for two people. One of the issues right up front is to decide where you will go. This is very important because if you are going to be travelling a long way, you will have to have a reliable vehicle. This means that you are sure your car can take you there and back without breaking down causing unnecessary cost, and ruined arrival time. You should, therefore, ensure that the car is serviced (oil changed, tires good, brakes good, etc,). The next thing is to plan to travel only a certain distance evryday and this depends on whether there is only one driver or two. If there are two frivers, then you can decide to go further each day but make sure you spell each other from driving duties every few hours (agree on this time frame before you start), and the longer you drive the shorter periods you should be driving before you change drivers. One of the other planning stages is to find out what kind of accommodations there are in those areas you plan to stay whether this be overnight before you continue on, or your final destination. If your trip is within a days drive, then you need to make reservations and this is especially important in busy vacation periods. The decision on where to stay also needs to be planned relative to the amount of money you wish to spend, what your needs are (for example, a pool, work out room etc.), and whether this will only be a short stop over place to get the needed rest or if this is going to be a place where you will spend a lot of time relaxing. Some people make the mistake in thinking that they will be able to find just the right room be it motel, or hotel, without planning ahead and making reservations. Don't do this because you don't want to have to look around for hours only to find there is no place to stay and then have to drive even further afield to find a spot. I've made this mistake myself so take my warning. Let's look at the planning that will be needed if you are taking a young child with you. One of the first things to be conscious of is how far can a child travel before they are needing attention whether this be feeding, or changing diapers etc. If the child is a baby, then you will need to ensure that you have packed all those items as if you were still at home; for example, bottles, formulas, diapers, changes of clothes, diaper bag, toys). If your child is older, you will need to know if you must buy a car seat, or if they have out grown a car seat, then you'll need some things to entertain them over a long ride, or, you will have to make your daily mileage a lot shorter between stops or layovers. |

more Road Trip Vacation Planning: Some of the hardest trips to plan are those ones involving teenagers. For those who have teenagers, you will know what I mean without me having to explain it. So, how do you plan for a resonably good road trip with teenagers along? First, if you are taking just one teenage child, it would be a great idea if you could take along a friend so they could have someone to talk to, enjoy time together, and enjoy themselves doing what they like to do like listen to their favourite music (on headphones of course), play video games, card games etc. If you have two teenage children, it is a lot easier to plan a trip by involving them in the planning part so they can pick a few places along the way to stop that would be of interest to them, or allow them to pick the resort, hotal, or motel from a list that you have pre-selected and that is with your budget. For example, you may let them pick a hotel with a pool, a gamesroom, or near a world class entertainment centre. You get the idea. |
